The Double Decker Train

This model was inspired by a German commuter train found in a Märklín catalog. Side view (36k) of the cab and center cars, end view (10k). The cabs will be had to model, 4 - 2x2x3 corner slopes in yellow are needed. :(

Double Decker commuter train car (21k)- A side view of the 2 story passenger car. Although the each car on the prototype has its own set of bogies, my model will use shared boogies like the FLT. When complete there will be a 3 car set, at each end will be a engineer's cab. Note the windows on the lower deck. These are the 2x4x2 "flat" faced clear windows. Since they are completely transparent they can be used in any color scheme. They also seem to provide and slightly smaller scale (and nicer aspect ratio) so the shorter car length (dictated by the tight radius curves) have the appearance of being longer than those that use the standard 1x4x3 train windows.

The profile (10k) of the cars are also somewhat unique. The yellow section is the sloped using the tall (3 bricks) slope bricks and the clear sloped 2x4x2 windshields. I split the difference of the slopes by centering the windshields. They are raised by 2 plates and a 3rd plate on the top makes up for the 3:2 brick height difference.

The Doors (17k) are inset from the base by a ˝ stud, this nearly matches the adjacent slopes at the door top. Since the 3 car set will have 4 doors, 12 of those sort after 1x2x3 white train windows are needed, ugh!
